M.S. Environmental Engineering, Air Quality

Expected EDC Certificate Completion: Fall 2016

Undergraduate: Washington University in St. Louis, B.S. Chemical Engineering

What are your hobbies outside of academic life?

I’m a member of the track and field team at CU so I guess I like to run! I also enjoy reading, hiking, and cooking/eating good food.

How did you become interested in global development?

I got involved with EWB as an undergrad and enjoyed being able to apply what I was learning to real communities and try and make a difference. I also have always been interested in learning about climate change and the role that developing communities play in environmental issues.

Why did you join the EDC program?

I was drawn to the program because I thought it would be a good way to expose myself to new experiences and also try and stay connected to real world issues while completing my graduate studies. I was also very excited about the idea of gaining hands on experience through the practicum.

What has been the most valuable thing you’ve learned from the EDC program?

So far I haven’t gotten too far in the program since I am starting the courses next semester, but from meeting the other students and professors who are in the program I have learned that there are people here with diverse backgrounds who all share common goals involving international development. I look forward to learning more from them over the next couple years!

Where do you hope to complete your practicum?

I have not completed my practicum yet but I hope that I will get a project involving emissions and other air quality issues since that is one of my main interests. I would also be drawn towards a Spanish speaking country since I took a lot of Spanish in high school and would like to refresh some of my skills here at CU.

What do you hope to do after completing your EDC certificate?

After completing my certificate as well as my master’s, I hope to get a job in the air quality field to help research climate change and work towards solving some of our climate issues. I would also like to remain involved in global development and hopefully work on projects that will make a positive impact worldwide.
